that have a bit more back end
than some judges like. Around
20-30 years ago they were still
classed as being in danger on
the Rare Breeds list with only a
few hundred breeding females
registered, but in
the past decade
they have
really picked
up and have
come off the list
altogether now,”
he explained.
“Our showing
season starts
at the Notts. &
Newark Show and we usually
get to Northumberland County
Show, Cheshire,
Great Yorkshire, Ryedale and
Aldborough & Boroughbridge.
We sometimes also show at
Westmorland County Show.
Last year, Tetford Mistletoe
(pictured here) won at Cheshire
and Ryedale and was reserve
champion at Aldborough &
Boroughbridge in a highly
competitive class.”
What pleased
Graham,
David - and
Graham’s best
mate, Robert
Mothersill - with
whom Graham
also works
part-time at
Thirsk Livestock
Market, even
more last year was the success
of their bull, Stoke Juniper.
“He won at Northumberland
County Show in Corbridge but
that wasn’t all. He was also
named top senior bull out of 23
herds in the Longhorn Northern
‘Last year for
example, saw
them take three
championships
out of the five
they attended’
