The Kirkcambeck Sales take
place in both the spring and
autumn each year and were
initially predominantly sales
for the Galloways and Blue
Greys. While there are still
a number of them forward
at today’s sales, the entries
now encompass the best of
all cattle including both native
and continentals. Last year it
attracted 528 entries.
Longtown is one of two
marts operated by Cumberland
& Dumfriesshire Farmers
Mart plc, the other being at
Dumfries. The company was
founded in 1926 and became
a public limited business
in 1981. The livestock
auctioneering business of
Thomson, Roddick & Laurie
Ltd, at Dumfries & Thornhill
Marts was taken over by the
