Charlie’ s other roles include being a partner in Frank Hill & Son in Patrington that also runs Dunswell Mart.
‘ It’ s going well. Ralph Ward does a tremendous job both in Patrington and Dunswell. We’ ve not only managed to keep Dunswell going, it has also grown and we hold a fatstock market every Monday and store market every other Monday.’
There is no sign of livestock at Laurel Farm just at the moment.
‘ We used to have a 100-sow breeding herd some years ago and my father was quite heavily involved with the sheep trade
both at the market and here. We have fattening cattle now and again when the price is right.’ Charlie’ s wife Helen has been raising funds for Cancer Research UK for a number of years. Her sponsored walk in Nepal in 2013 and raffling a car for charity as well as many other exploits have seen her raise £ 17,000 so far. In September this year she will be on another sponsored walk in the Andes Mountains on the Machu Picchu trek. She hopes to take her total way beyond her initial target of £ 20,000.
‘ She’ s amazing,’ says Charlie.‘ It will take a long time for The Pub Lads to raise that much.
