Ben also has a contracting
side to the business which he
is keen to develop as much of
this work can be done when the
cattle side is quiet.
For all that Ben is a hardheaded businessman, he
admitted he struggled when
his first and prize Bull Lockerley
Kougar had to be put down. He
couldn’t bear to be in the yard
when it was done and as he said
to me, “It did bring a tear to my
eye.”
WELCOME GABRIELLA!
Personal life is also very busy:
the night before my visit, Ben
delivered his fourth daughter,
Gabriella, at 4am in the morning
on the 16th November – well
before the paramedics could
get there! She now joins Hettie
(3), Florence (9) and 11 year old
Elsie, who is following the family

trend winning the Junior Young
Handler at Penistone Show
2015.They also took Overall
Show Winner with Kinannie.
Although now Ben does most
work on the farm himself, he
also has invaluable help from
Steve who is a Farm Contractor,
when he’s not working with
Ben.
From the very start of the Liley
Angus herd Ben and his varying
team have really worked hard
and well to establish, maintain
and grow this fabulous herd –
something I feel will continue for
sure and there is no doubt than
the future of the Liley Angus herd
is that it will ultimately be worked,
reared and maintained by four
hard working sisters.
We look forward to reporting
on the Marsden Dynasty at the
North East Aberdeen Angus Club
show this November.
