For all your mechanical and machinery needs
»»Agricultural
Engineer, Robert M Tyson,
began trading in 2010,
following an apprenticeship
at Townson Tractors, Hellifield
where he acquired a first
class level of knowledge
across a broad range of
mechanical services. It was
this thorough training and
experience that enabled
Robert to launch his business
and to be able to offer repairs
on all agricultural machinery,
fabrication, breakdown
assistance and manufacture
of hydraulic hoses. Also
available is a useful,
specialist Argo-Cat service
centre.
During the past five
years, thanks to his own
skills and hard work, Robert
has established a large
and loyal customer base
throughout Skipton, The
Dales and surrounding areas.
Committed to providing
friendly service of the highest

one to Carlisle. Our breeding
bulls are sold from the farm
with customers coming back
regularly.’
The sheep flock includes 700
Texel X ewes, 70 pure Texels
and a few Beltex.
‘Texel X do well and we keep
them here right through winter
apart from a few older sheep and
gimmer hoggs that go to Nun
Monkton near York. We lamb
the pedigrees in March and start
with the main flock in April. We
spread it out a bit as we try to
lamb everything inside. We retain
200 gimmer hoggs each year to
come into the flock.’
Due to the fat price not being
as good John had a change
of policy in 2015 selling far
more as stores than he had
previously. By getting them
away earlier he made savings
on grass and had a good supply
of silage.
‘We used to lamb 1000 ewes
when we had Swaledales and
although we have reduced

numbers the quality of our
stock has increased as we
have moved more and more
into Texels. We’ve also found
another market in selling tups at
tup sales as we realised we can
do them pretty well.’
John is a former club leader
of Upper Wharfedale YFC
and represented the club in
stockjudging competitions.
John (Jr) and Laura are both
members of the club today
and have followed in their
father’s stockjudging shoes.
John (Jr) works both at home
on the farm and for Michael
Daggett at Hartlington
Fencing. Laura works fulltime at the Craven Arms in
Appletreewick.
