Coddy’s Farm
Another Year
of Growth
for Coddy’s
Farm
»»It is just a year since
Ian Wilkinson met Andrew and
Lisa Cowill of Coddy’s farm in
Holmfirth. At the time, they
had just completed an amazing
transformation of an old barn
into a state of the art B and
B to generate a more stable
income (no pun intended!) and
future-proof the business. A
year on, Ian returned to find
still more developments at both
the immaculate B&B and Farm
Shop.
The delightful B&B has eight
double rooms, two of which are
big enough for a family of six and
the whole barn can be rented
for special occasions for up to
24. For those special occasions
they have now levelled a lawn
at the back, creating space for
a marquee available to hire for
weddings and other functions.
Back in 2007 they launched
Coddy’s Farm Shop which
entailed them selling all their own
Aberdeen Angus and Dexter
beef, lamb and pork, mostly at
numerous farmers markets. So
it comes as no surprise to learn
that this enterprising couple

have gone another step further
and made Coddy’s Farm Shop
a permanent shop on the farm.
This has been achieved by
converting an old agricultural
building and one of their stone
garages. So now as you drive up
to the farm and B&B the Farm
Shop is immediately on the left.
With its own full meat preparation
room and store, it is fully kitted
out with commercial fridge,
freezer and display cabinets.
The new shop now means
they no longer need to do the
demanding five markets a week,
but they still manage to fit in
two, Littlebrough & Cleckheaton
and Holmfirth on Thursdays and
Saturdays.
They still use all their own
beef, lamb and pork, make their
own sausages, but buy in free
range chickens from Whitams.
They used to keep turkeys
but these frequently got out
and used to stand looking in
at the window! They are now
bought in from local farms.
The development of the
Farm Shop was really pushed
forward this summer by people
