THROSTLE NEST FARM Greening is the way forward, says Beef Shorthorn & CFE enthusiast, Fraser Hugill Chris Berry finds out more. Television is a powerful medium and one programme has at least provided Fraser Hugill and his partner, Rosy, with an important lesson. They moved to Throstle Nest Farm two years ago but they are not actually living in the farmhouse just yet! Fraser explained: “It wasn’t our plan to rebuild it but when we started all the renovation work- and a big lump of it fell down we knew it was going to be a big job!” “The one thing we learned from watching ‘Grand Designs’ was to buy a decent caravan because you will always need longer than you think for these projects. The other lesson we learned was not to put yourself forward for the programme either - because otherwise you’ll have Kevin McCloud looking at you all smug when it falls down!” In fact the couple’s first priority was not to remedy their own housing situation but that of their cattle. Fraser has a herd of 45 pedigree Beef Shorthorn cows which means the herd runs to around 120-130 head at any one time. When I visited last autumn the second of two massive sheds was just reaching completion.
