THROSTLE NEST FARM
Greening is the way forward,
says Beef Shorthorn & CFE
enthusiast, Fraser Hugill
Chris Berry finds out more.
Television is a powerful
medium and one
programme has at least
provided Fraser Hugill and
his partner, Rosy, with an
important lesson. They
moved to Throstle Nest
Farm two years ago but
they are not actually living
in the farmhouse just yet!
Fraser explained: “It wasn’t
our plan to rebuild it but when
we started all the renovation
work- and a big lump of it fell
down we knew it was going to
be a big job!”
“The one thing we learned
from watching ‘Grand Designs’
was to buy a decent caravan
because you will always need
longer than you think for these
projects. The other lesson we
learned was not to put yourself
forward for the programme
either - because otherwise
you’ll have Kevin McCloud
looking at you all smug when it
falls down!”
In fact the couple’s first
priority was not to remedy
their own housing situation
but that of their cattle. Fraser
has a herd of 45 pedigree
Beef Shorthorn cows which
means the herd runs to around
120-130 head at any one time.
When I visited last autumn the
second of two massive sheds
was just reaching completion.
They are impressive structures
