farm news NQF appoints New Specialist Advisor Northumbrian Quality Feeds have appointed Nikki Gilbertson (pictured) as a new Sales and Feed adviser to work with livestock farmers across Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. Nikki will work closely alongside John Naylor, company General Manager. From a farming background, Nikki is dedicated to the countryside and agricultural industry. She has completed lambings and shepherd work from an early age, and has recently started showing sheep. With her new job, she is returning to her roots as she was born at Easington Farm, Belford, from where the business operates. Nikki said: “My aim is to help farmers and to see their livestock perform and improve. This is a job, which for me, brings with it the ultimate job satisfaction. Having a farmer tell you ‘a job well done’ is high praise indeed.” John Naylor adds: “These are challenging times for livestock farmers, so it is more important than ever to look at both financial and nutritional efficiencies. Nikki will help us to continue to grow the business and build on our high levels of service and support.” nikki@northumbrianqualityfeeds. co.uk. www.northumbrianqualityfeeds.co.uk Disruption for Farmers Expected from National Grid plans Details of the pylon route corridor from Sellafield to Harker and Sellafield to Heysham, to connect the proposed nuclear power station at Moorside, were recently announced by the National Grid. Matthew Bell, Chartered Surveyor at H&H Land and Property, urges farmers to act now. “If work on the route is liable to affect your land and or property, it is most likely that it will cause you disruption. So it is very important that you understand the implications to ensure that you protect your interests.” The National Grid is currently referencing at 3km corridor and are contacting all land owners. The proposed works may involve removing existing power lines, installing temporary lines and erecting new pylons along the expected route of the power line. Matthew continues: “We know various routes are currently being considered and as they must carry out initial land referencing to identify landowners along the routes, work is already underway.
