YORK AUCTION CENTRE “The idea came about when a neighbouring business owner, Phil Robinson, who runs Yorkshire Handlers Ltd, came over to ask whether he could hire our premises to put on an Open Day for the launch of a new McCormick tractor,” Richard explained. MANUFACTURERS & DEALERSHIPS COMING TOGETHER “The whole thing snowballed in a matter of weeks and every farm machinery dealership along with all the manufacturers whom they represent will be here, including everyone from Ripon Farm Services, Russells and Wilfred Scruton’s, to potato harvesting manufacturers and trailer businesses. “We are trying very hard not to raise our expectations too high for what could become an annual event,” Richard said, “but we are very excited at the prospect of hosting what we anticipate will be a large social occasion as well as a fantastic opportunity to showcase farm machinery in a great setting. “And of course we already have all the appropriate facilities in place. We have a ‘a fabulous reaction from Yorkshire dealers’ database of more than 40,000 through those who already use the York Auction Centre, but we are hoping that the event will attract many more who may never previously have visited us.” There are still some individual farm machinery open days held annually in the North of England despite the loss of several. Ripon Farm Services hosts a two-day event at the Great Yorkshire Showground in January and Farmstar hosts a one-day show at their Marr premises near Doncaster; but this will be the first time ever outside of the summer agricultural show season where so many dealerships and manufacturers will be present in the White Rose county.
