‘ I love farming and I ’ m currently working on the family arable farm where we grow 1000 acres of winter wheat , spring barley , winter barley and oilseed rape . The farm is part of Wharncliffe Estate and the land is mainly hardworking heavy clay with good topsoil from what was previously open cast mining . This year ’ s wheat has been a real challenge because of the weather we experienced last autumn .’
Jake is also now adding butchery skills to his growing repertoire and is delighted with the impact Wortley Wagyu has made in the first couple of months since making it available .
‘ It ’ s about sticking true to my principles now and making sure that we have the right level of supply for the demand we are seeing , whilst also ensuring that our quality is not compromised . Our cattle will never be pushed into going earlier than they should . We already have a reputation to consider and consistency is vital . Our customers need to enjoy every burger , steak or joint that is produced from our cattle .’
