Andrew and Kyle are absolutely committed to the production of quality for their hay and haylage . They use some of the most up to date equipment to do the job right , from using Pottinger equipment to cut and turn the grass , to McArthur dryers . There is no skimping on wrapping , as Andrew said , “ No point all that effort going into producing quality grass and then cutting corners ”. Different products get a different coloured wrap . You will notice from the bright purple wrap Kyle is pictured in front of , that he and Andrew are keen supporters of the ” Well Child ” national children ’ s charity . They also sponsor several riders .
Everything that they do is driven by a passion for quality , even down to the packaging they use from Premier Flexible Packaging in Flint , which makes the product look as good on the outside as in .” It ’ s sunshine in a bag !” Says Kyle . Everything is sieved and graded , the premium quality range is virtually dust free .
The business has really blossomed . As well as supplying across the Calder Valley they go as far as Brighton and
Cumbria , also supplying many studs and yards . They supply a lot of champions , often making bespoke blends for them . Premier Haylage is also available in about 40 merchants so far .
I sat with Andrew and Kyle as they showed me their two main brands . There was as much passion and pride as two of Twinings top tea blenders .
The current situation has affected most businesses in some way . For Andrew and Kyle , it was a positive , it gave them chance to take a bigger look at the competition and perfect their processes even further . This has allowed for greater grass analysis and therefore more considered and better treatment . Kyle has been able to put a lot from his dissertation into action . New blends have been tried out on the stable horses with great results . They have a plan to increase their storage areas .
The result has been , as you might have expected , a very healthy increase in sales . Andrew and Kyle ’ s ethos of preparation and ploughing back into the business is paying huge dividends and creating a business with a strong and ever-growing future .
