TUNSTALL TEESWATER’S 39
• AUG/SEP 2018
A Small flock of Champion Teeswaters
ON the outskirts of the village of
Nunthorpe near Stokesley up in the
North East Ian met up with Adrian
Helm (Freddie) and Pamela Mor-
rish. They are the owners of the
Tunstall Teeswaters a flock of the
rare breed long wooled Teeswater
sheep. For a Flock only established
in 2007 small with 7 breeding ewes,
3 tups and 16 lambs it’s made some
remarkable achievements. Freddie
and Pam only started showing in
2014 and have already amassed
some 86 Rosettes, with several
firsts. The proudest moments so far
have been Princess Anne’s fleece
achieving British Wool Marketing
Board champion of England in 2016
and 3rd in the UK, culminating in
this year’s Great Yorkshire Show
achieving both Reserve Male
Champion and Male Champion in
the Teeswater classes and Inter-
breed Longwool Champion with
Anne’s son Prince Harry,his fleece
is now being entered in the British
Wool Marketing Board’s 2018 gold-
en fleece competition.
With this level of achievement, I
was keen to learn more. Pam had
a natural love for the outdoors
and countryside, she bred a
horse that developed laminitis
which meant there was a need for
non- rich grazing, so having lambs
on the land would be ideal.
Freddie works for Noble foods
delivering feed mainly to poultry
farmers in Cumbria. It is a job he
has done for two years and loves
it, as he said to me “It’s like having
a day trip every day to the Lake
