Farm BobName Wild LOYALTY FROM STAFF AND CUSTOMERS So has all this been a oneman show? Not at all. Bob has an extremely loyal team of staff around him many with more than 10 years or more service which is why the level of service and customer retention is so high. As Bob said, “We function very much as a family business here and a close knit team”. ‘We function very much as a family business here and a close knit team’ Indeed he will often still head into the workshop and pick up the tools again if the need arises. Following the family theme, Bob is delighted that son, Richard is now firmly in the business and has been so for four years. Richard joined the business after spreading his wings far and wide whilst deciding on his long-term path including working in America at a water sports centre driving and working on boats for four seasons. He then moved to Australia working on construction sites in Sydney, Canberra and New South Wales picking up a wealth of experience and knowledge along the way. Finally, he made the decision to return to the UK to settle down but also he was drawn back to the UK as he had always been around farming and from his experiences worldwide, he had lots of ideas - in particular to build up a construction machinery arm to BWM. This he has achieved and the construction side buys and sells across the UK and the globe. Richard is also very much hands on with the machinery side as well. As Richard said, “I look forward to Mondays. No two weeks are the same in this business!” As both the Machinery and Construction sides have blossomed, Bob and Richard feel they have outgrown the current site and they already rent large storage facilities elsewhere. “It would be good to find a site where we could bring everything together as one, but still stay in the Calder Valley,” Bob explained. When I asked about the secret of success both agreed it was down to three fundamentals: hard work, the personal touch with customers and funding the business solely from self-generated revenue. Bob Wild Machinery is very much a traditional family business that has grown and developed with the times, embracing all that online and technology bring but never forgetting the need to maintain personal service to all its customers large or small. We wish them continued success. www.farmers-mart.co.uk Aug/Sep 2016 89
