Tim’s grandfather came here in the early 1900s. Dotterill Park Farm runs to around 600 acres and having been tenanted previously was bought in 1980. Pear Tree Farm at Thwing was purchased in 1972 and is one of two farms in Thwing that make up the rest of the acreage. The farming partnership between Tim’s father and his uncle was set up in 1957 after Tim’s grandfather passed away. This year’s harvest was under way as we were going to press with this edition of Farmers Mart. Tim says he would be pleasantly surprised - and probably a little amazed - if yields were as high as the 2015 harvest. “We have good strong Wolds land, typically medium loam and chalk. Last year saw record yields and we had one or two fields recording near to six tonnes an acre. This year we’re harvesting 540 acres of winter wheat with 50 per cent destined for milling and the rest going for feed. We’ve been growing the varieties Gallant, Trinity and Crusoe. It’s our first time with Trinity and it has been looking good and standing well. We’re fortunate to have good grain store capacity of 3000 tonnes in one store and the ability to store 6000-7000 tonnes across our other farms. “We’ve also been harvesting 150 acres of winter barley and 150 acres of spring barley. The winter barley is all Venture for malting. It’s on contract. We grew Glacier last year, which did very well for us, but we’re growing what the market demands and
