There ’ s a common held feeling that you should always give a busy man a job because he will find a way of getting it done . Perhaps that ’ s why Chris ended up putting himself forward as a councillor for Easingwold on Hambleton District Council and chairman of the Huby & Sutton on the Forest Show .
‘ I have been a district councillor now for 5 years . I ’ ve always enjoyed being on committees . I was vicechairman of the Yorkshire Federation of YFC . I ’ d been on Huby & Sutton on the Forest Show committee for over 20 years and I ’ m delighted to be a part of bringing back the show this year . We need to keep these smaller shows going . We ’ ve lost Husthwaite Show and Tollerton Show so we ’ re all determined that our show will stay and flourish .’
The Rooke family lineage in Newton on Ouse goes
back to 1795 and Chris has the ledgers to prove it .
‘ It ’ s been Rookes all the way . What is interesting looking at the ledgers is that the farm wages never went up in over 100 years . There was no inflation . We moved the farm out of the village in 1987 and moved house to here in 1997 . The farm in the village was known as The Beeches . My parents Robert and Moira passed away in 1999 .’

Chris married Joanne 15 years ago . They have two daughters – Georgina ( 12 ) and Scarlett ( 11 ). Chris ’ brother David is the Deputy Chief Executive of the Environment Agency .
