“I think some of our visitors
on Open Farm Sunday are
surprised that our cows
remain inside but I explain
why and they can see just how
contented, quiet and relaxed
they are. On the continent there
are even more dairy herds that
stay inside. I’ve seen that in
Portugal, Israel, Holland and
Denmark. Many of the big
farms in USA are doing it too
as they, like us, have found that
they can manage them better
and have improved their herd
health. The only thing I’d like to
see is more people coming to
us on the day. Those who do
are really keen to know about
dairying and ask all sorts of
questions about what we do.
