RICKERBY - IT ’ S ALL GOING ON

2021 has been one of Rickerby ’ s best years ever , I recently hooked up with the charismatic and energised Martyn Henderson for an update on 2021 and to discuss 2022 .
MARTYN is still doing up his tractors , during COVID he actually fully renovated his Honda Ss50 moped bought for £ 180 in the 70 , s and is now worth considerably more ! He is currently spending a fair amount of time out and about visiting farms , demonstrating machines and doing deals , something he finds both refreshing and enjoyable this is as a result of one of his salesmen going back to farming .
So this year for the second year running the annual 2 day Rickerby open event at Carlisle was cancelled due to COVID . This was a particularly tough decision made way back in December when things were looking decidedly risky . The decision had to be made then
as so much of the event must be planned , ordered and organised early . At the time there were a number of staff off with COVID , plus the fact all the marquees had to be booked then , this meant the gamble factor was just too great so regrettably the call was made .
However , as we know you can ’ t keep a good team down , so with that the dynamic duo in the shape of Pottsy and Henderson took to the Rickerby studio once again for a spot of mad cap farm machinery footage which was duly posted on Facebook and Instagram . The annual Rickerby magazine has been produced and went out in March , there have also been a lot of special March deals which have gone down a storm .
Another firm annual favourite of the Rickerby show was in evidence when I visited Currock Road , the commemorative toy tractor , this year it was an Axion930 on tracks – a popular snap at £ 99 + Vat , these are always high-quality die cast models specially made in Durham .
Rickerby always have special edition machines for their March event , as with the toys they this year was no exception , they have had two cracking special edition tractors . The Axion 800 , 205HP tractor in AUDI grey and sporting a genuine full chrome exhaust . This has been bought by one of Rickerby ’ s key customers KMG farming from Allonby , West Cumbria , run by
the Watson brothers . They have a large contracting business which is continuing to expand as well as their agricultural engineering side , and in true farming diversity tradition , Gareth Watson runs one of the biggest plumbing firms in West Cumbria . As well as the Axion they have also purchased 4 brand new Bailey trailers , 2 Silage , a contract tipper and a low loader all with specific modifications , to complete the new line up they have also bought a forager with front and back mowers .
The second special edition is an Arion 470 . 155 HP tractor
