Today, Rickerby stands as one of the
UK’s most successful dealers. 2019 was a
good year, particularly for tractors. Every
franchise has done well. In fact, Rickerby
hold the record for the most CLAAS units
sold in the UK. Combines and choppers
have been very strong.
2019 saw them take on new franchises
to enhance their range to farmers in the
shape of Claydon drills and AMIA who are
first rate importers of quality machinery
from Europe - Rickerby sell a lot of their
vegetable processing machinery.
This year’s open event was planned
many months ago by Martyn delivered
along with the Rickerby team. The annual
show, which will be the 20th next year
(ooh another anniversary!), is a firm
fixture in many agricultural calendars.
Talking to farmers, they do enjoy the
Rickerby show, it’s a chance to meet
with friends and colleagues who they
don’t see much from one year to the
next. Martyn told me that there are some

farmers who don’t come to the depot all
year as they are so busy, the Rickerby
team usually come to them. Quite a
number come to the show and stop until
10pm, stop over and make a night of it, so
not only do they have a good time, but
the local economy benefits as well.
Martyn likes to keep it fresh and change
things around each year. This year, a
lot of the manufacturers had special
140-year commemorative livery on
display, including Iseki, Bailey and Abbey
Machinery to name but three. For me, the
Abbey Machinery feeder in black with the
cow logo was the best. Rickerby had the
CLAAS tractors and scorpion telehandler
sprayed in impressive black livery by
local specialist M & B of Carlisle.
