We have two lambing times starting the first flock near the end of March and the other from mid- April. We start with Mules and then a Lleyn X Meatlinc ewe back to a Meatlinc tup.’ ‘We’re looking for an R3L carcase every time going to Dunbia. We’re currently experimenting with a Logie tup from a producer in Scotland and a Romney and looking closely at costs of production and kilos of lambs produced per ewe.’ ‘The rest of the farm includes pigs for Ian Mosey taken from 35 kilos to fat; and arable cropping. Wheat, barley and of course oilseed rape are all grown. We’re on light chalky land at around 800ft and get a wheat yield of around 4 tonnes per acre. We also grow winter and spring malting barley as it CM works well up here and comes in at between 2.5-3 tonnes per acre. Our winter barley is Venture which goes to Munton’s through Frontier and spring barley variety Cassata is on a whisky contract with Munton’s.’ Adam’s parents Ben and Esther play their part too. Ben is a retired sea captain having been in the Merchant Navy. He works in the Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil business. Adam reserves a special mention though to Alec Danby. ‘Alec worked here for my grandfather before I came to run the farm. I’d talk with him when I would come up to work here during weekends and school holidays.
