Rickerby Ltd As often happens with show such as this it’s as much a social event for the farmers as an opportunity to view and buy. Here farmers have room to meet and chat discuss the latest developments etc and as ever Rickerbys have a spot on refreshments set up. From about 10.30am people start to filter in and as 12 noon – the official start time - the place is already very busy. The afternoon is steadily busy then at 5pm the whole place floods with farmers resulting in a happy buzzing throng is in attendance till about 10.15pm. All day the entire Rickerby staff are on hand to inform, chat, negotiate and sell. You always sense that positive buzz amongst the staff which no doubt filters back to the customers. I arrived reasonably early which meant I was able to snatch a few minutes with one of Rickerby’s well known and respected workhorses, Martyn Henderson (West Sales Director). Martyn is Action Man himself who confesses he doesn’t like offices or computers and isn’t a fan of sitting down much. Martyn knows everyone of his staff and pretty much all Rickerby’s many customers. He is happiest motivating his staff- sorting something out or striking a deal. I asked Martyn about Rickerby’s success. “We don’t have too many bosses here, everyone functions as a team and we love to have that bit of crack and banter.
