“Pre-lambing I prefer to leave
a line of cake, so that when
they are feeding you can check
all the ewes’ backsides - so
that means you pull on the
drawstring as you are travelling
to create the line. Over the
hopper you can put a lid that
creates a platform for as many
as 12 lambs to sit upon. The
rest of the trailer can hold up
to six ewes. Underneath the
hopper I have made an area
where you can store drugs and
poorly lambs.
“The storage area for weak
lambs I believe is unique and
I have patented it along with
seven other parts of the Easy
Sheep Feed Trailer. Colostrum
is also stored there and we
give it to the weak lamb. We
dry it, give the colostrum
and put it in the cubicle
where it will slowly raise its
temperature. I’m a big believer
in colostrum. We save a lot
of it off the milk cows. What
is even more important to the
weak lamb is that it is then out
of the cold.

“Most sheep farmers will
know that taking a weak lamb
back to the farmhouse on your
bike can strip the temperature
right out of them and kill them
off.”
Jonathan started with the
idea about five years ago and
all he has done with his initial
concept is to tweak it a little.
He has made the Easy Sheep
Feed Trailer as robust as he
can with a choice of lights and
mudguards, otherwise it is a
standard product.
“My shepherd uses it every
day and I’ve also had a number
of others test it before putting
it on the market,” he told
me. “At LAMMA we were
inundated with interest and
took orders for delivery. I think
a lot of sensible farmers will
appreciate it.
“There are many sheep
farmers with bad backs seen
hobbling around auction
marts because they have
tried to carry heavy weights,
whether feed or lambs, around
the fields in spring. We’ve
all got to learn to look after
ourselves.”
