Aliquam varius adipiscing

In 1950, the Canadian engineer John Hopps designed and built the first external pacemaker. It was based upon observations done by cardio-thoracic surgeons.

The primary purpose of a pacemaker is to maintain an adequate heart rate. The heart's natural pacemaker can be not fast enough or the heart's electrical conduction system can be blocked.
