Welcome to Rooted! We’ re so excited to have teens( ages 13 to 18) join us for monthly outdoor adventures. Each session is packed with fun activities, including wildlife observation, creek stomping, night hikes, wilderness survival skills, and more! Our goal is to spark a love for the outdoors and inspire a sense of stewardship that lasts for generations. Plus, we’ ve got you covered with snacks to keep you fueled! Each session is just $ 10 per participant. We can’ t wait to get rooted in nature with you!

Welcome to our very first Rooted program! Do you have what it takes to complete our Nature Scavenger Hunt? As you go on a hike through the park, your team and naturalist will need to find each of the items on the list and snap a picture. Whichever team returns to the shelter first with all the categories, wins!

CREEK STOMP AT MCCLOUD NATURE

Take a dip in the Big Walnut Creek! As we walk through the creek, we’ ll collect water samples and analyze their composition using water testing and macroinvertebrate identification. We’ ll show you all the different tools to use and explain how what’ s living in the water tells a story about pollution affecting the area. Bring your water shoes!
NIGHT HIKE AT MCCLOUD NATURE PARK

You’ ve seen our parks in the day, but now is your chance to explore them at night! This evening session of our club will include a campfire( with s’ mores, of course) and faith in our naturalists as we guide you through the dark. Don’ t worry, we will have flashlights on hand for safety, but the more we are in the dark, the more our eyes will adjust, similar to the nocturnal critters we’ ll meet along the way.
WILDFLOWER WALK AT W. S. GIBBS

What better way to end the summer season than by saying farewell to our wonderful wildflowers? Take a walk around the park with our Naturalists as we make our very own wildflower bouquets. We will identify and discuss the perennial blooms we find along the way. Participants are also welcome to create their very own flower“ junk journal” to secure their new collection. Note: The collection of plants in our parks outside of permitted program use is prohibited without written permission from our park management.
