ON THE COVER
Local photographer Traci Patterson caught this image of a Downy Woodpecker feeding her youngster. What a shot! Downy Woodpeckers are common in all of our parks. They’ re small birds that often join flocks of chickadees and nuthatches. They’ re very nimble on small branches and suet feeders. They also enjoy black oil sunflower seeds, millet, peanuts, and chunky peanut butter. See if you can spot some at our parks or at the Ray & Mary Benson Nature Center’ s bird-viewing room!
