HOMESCHOOL ECOLOGY AT MCCLOUD NATURE PARK

Homeschool students are invited to join Hendricks County Park Naturalists for ecology lessons ! We ’ re now offering the series through the summer months !

The Homeschool Ecology series provides hands-on , ageappropriate , interactive activities about ecology topics . These programs are designed to build on each other , but students may register for the lessons that interest them and fit their schedules . Take advantage of our newly added sessions this year as this series is available in May , June , July , and August !

HERPING AROUND FRIDAY , MAY 17 • 10 AM Advanced registration required by Friday , May 10th
Do you love reptiles and amphibians ? Do you want to learn more about them and see them in their natural habitat ? Join us for a herpetology hike , where we will discover the amazing world of these cold-blooded critters . We ’ ll identify the different types of herps , how they adapt and interact in their environment . Don ' t miss out on a chance to see frogs , toads , salamanders , snakes , lizards , and turtles as we explore the fascinating world of herpetofauna at McCloud Nature Park !
NATIVE PLANTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM FRIDAY , JUNE 21 • 10 AM Advanced registration required by Friday , June 14th
Join us as we explore the native plants of McCloud Nature Park . Discover the benefits and uses of native plants and how to identify them by their features in this adventurous educational program . You will go on a guided hike where we will search for various species to observe , feel , smell , and discover what role they play within their ecosystem . You won ’ t want to miss out on this adventure !

EAGLES IN FLIGHT FRIDAY , JULY 19 • 10 AM Advanced registration required by Friday , July 12th
Join a naturalist for this program all about our national bird , the Bald Eagle , and other birds of prey . We will learn about what they eat , where they live , and how they have adapted to an always-changing ecosystem . We will also go on a guided hike to try to spot some different habitats that they may live in . Don ’ t miss this chance to learn about the many birds of prey that call our park home .
ARACHNIDS AMONG US FRIDAY , AUGUST 16T • 10 AM Advanced registration required by Friday , August 9th
Do you think spiders are creepy or cool ? Do you want to learn more about these amazing arachnids and why they are important for the environment ? Then join us for a program about learning to love spiders , where you will meet our resident jumping spiders and our tarantula . You will learn about the different types of spiders , their anatomy , behavior , and web-making skills . You will also get to see them up close and personal , and observe how they move , jump , and hunt . This program is a great way to discover the beauty and diversity of spiders . Don ' t miss this chance to see and learn about the spiders of our park !
