PROGRAMS AT THE SENIOR CENTER
Hendricks County Parks & Recreation is teaming up with Hendricks County Senior Services to bring FREE programs to the Senior Center in Danville !
Join our naturalists at the Senior Center in Danville on the 4th Wednesday of every month from 12:30 to 1:30 p . m . for a FREE nature-themed program !
These programs take place during lunch at the Senior Center , and donations are accepted for lunch . The Senior Center partners with the Central Indiana Council on Aging ( CICOA ) to provide the meals . CICOA ’ s paperwork must be completed upon your first visit . Lunch is prepared by Hendricks Regional Health Hospital . To make a lunch reservation , please call ( 317 ) 910-5356 by 11 a . m . on the day before the program .
MCCLOUD 20 TH ANNIVERSARY WEDNESDAY , MAY 24 It is the 20th anniversary of McCloud Nature Park this year ! But McCloud is a mix of old and new . There was a private McCloud Park in the same location in the 1930 ’ s , and evidence can still be seen along some of the trails . Learn how the current McCloud Nature Park came to be with a Hendricks County Park naturalist .
FIREFLIES WEDNESDAY , JUNE 28 Fireflies , lightning bugs , glow worms , whatever you call them , they are one of the very few living organisms that produces light . Why do they do that ? Discover that answer and have more mysteries revealed about these tiny creatures with a Hendricks County Park naturalist .
WATER QUALITY WEDNESDAY , JULY 26 Healthy streams are important for wildlife and for recreation . Did you know that the types of bugs that live in the creek can tell you a lot about water quality ? The presence or absence of certain aquatic insects can give you an idea about health of the stream . Fish aren ’ t very good indicators because they can swim to different areas if there is a water pollution problem . Learn about the relationship between good water quality and the aquatic bugs that live in our streams with a Hendricks County Park naturalist .
POLLINATORS WEDNESDAY , AUGUST 23 • 12:30 PM Pollinators are pretty amazing ! They pollinate our food and other plants for free . All pollinators , not just honeybees , need our help . Discover more about these insects and what we can and should do to help . A Hendricks County Park naturalist will share sweet secrets of these creatures . Join us for the FREE Pollinator Party on Saturday , August 26 at McCloud Nature Park !
