HOMESCHOOL ECOLOGY AT MCCLOUD NATURE PARK

Homeschool students are invited to join Hendricks County Park Naturalists for ecology lessons at McCloud Nature Park !

The Homeschool Ecology series provides hands-on , ageappropriate , interactive activities about ecology topics . This series is developed and taught by our Senior Park Naturalist who was homeschooled . The programs are designed to build on each other , but students may register for the lessons that interest them and fit their schedules . Sessions are available in May and August .

The morning sessions are for ages 6-11 ($ 5 / student ); younger siblings under age 6 are free .
The afternoon sessions have separate sessions for ages 12-18 ($ 10 / older student ) AND younger siblings ages 6-11 ($ 5 / younger student ); younger siblings under age 6 are free .
Advance registration required . Sessions are approximately two hours .
INSECTS
FRIDAY , AUGUST 18 • 10 AM Insects come in a variety of colors and have specific roles , but all true insects have three body parts , six legs , and an exoskeleton . Catch ( and release ) bugs while learning some insect ID ! Play games to learn about the roles that these amazing creatures play . Everyone is invited back for the FREE Pollinator Party on Saturday , August 26th !
WATER EXPERIMENTS FRIDAY , MAY 26 • 10 AM Water is amazing ! It is important for all living beings , it dissolves many substances , it sticks together , objects float on it , and it is also attracted to other surfaces ! Explore water through experiments , games , and by building mini rafts .
NATIVE WILDFLOWERS AND POLLINATORS FRIDAY , AUGUST 18 • 1 PM Flowers and pollinators have adapted to benefit each other . Conduct field studies to observe pollinator interactions with flowers , complete flower dissections , and play a game to discover why it is important to plant native wildflowers . Everyone is invited back for the FREE Pollinator Party on Saturday , August 26 !
GROUNDWATER HYDROLOGY
FRIDAY , MAY 26 • 1 PM Where does our drinking water come from ? It comes out of the faucet , but where does it really come from ? Many of our homes and towns rely on groundwater for safe drinking water . Discover how the water gets there , why springs form , and what happens when groundwater gets polluted through mapping , experiments , and games .
