Vandalia Trail , Amo Trailhead
Decorate your bike , scooter , stroller , or wheelchair and let ’ s go for a ride on the Vandalia Trail !
Show off your creativity and then join a naturalist and community partners for an easy bike ride along the paved trail . The parade begins at 4 p . m ., so decorate your ride in advance , or arrive early to decorate it at the Amo trailhead with supplies that our naturalist will bring ! Participants are strongly recommended to wear helmets . The trip will consist of a 1.5-mile ride out from the start and a 1.5-mile return for a total of three miles . Participants may turn back at any point along the trail if they would like to return sooner . Modern ADA-accessible restrooms and water fountains are available at the Amo trailhead but not at the turn-around point . Dress for the weather and bring a water bottle .

Outdoor Skills : Don ’ t Become a Lost or Stranded Hiker ! Saturday , June 18 • 1 p . m . McCloud Nature Park
Time spent in the woods is wonderful , except when it isn ’ t . Poor planning , wearing the wrong attire , running out of water , inclement weather , injuries , or getting lost can be miserable or worse . Join local bushcraft instructors Ryan Rose and Tracy Alderson for a session on how to be better prepared for an enjoyable hike and what to do when things don ’ t go as planned . Topics that will be included : trip pre-planning , gear and attire selection , basic wilderness survival priorities and skills , what to do if you get lost , basic navigation skills , what ’ s in our day kits and how to use it . Bring and wear what you would for a day hike at a park . Participants will receive a collectable HCP & R patch ! The Parks Foundation of Hendricks County ’ s Summer Fun Run Series is back for 2022 ! Enjoy an untimed stroll or run with family and friends at your convenience anytime between 4 and 7 p . m . at McCloud Nature Park ! We will offer a short and a long course to run or walk on trails with gravel and natural surfaces . ( Trails are not conducive to standard strollers . Jogging strollers with larger tires are a better option .) We ’ ll have ice cold water for you to cool down with when you ’ re done . Have you ever wanted to try disc golf ? Here ’ s your chance ! Hendricks County Parks and Recreation is partnering with the Hendricks County Disc Golf Club to offer this training seminar . Hands-on practice will include driving and putting , and the event will conclude with a “ ring of fire ” competition with prizes ! All skill levels are welcome .

By participating in citizen science projects , you can collect information on water quality , migrating birds and butterflies , the seasons , and more , and this information can be used by scientists ! You will discover easy apps , websites , and programs that you can use for citizen science . Some of these apps also help with identification of plants and other species ! Check out some of these apps on devices available to borrow while at Hendricks County Park properties ! ( See page 21 for more information .) These will be great sessions to attend if you are planning to participate in July ’ s BioBlitz !
