Perseid Meteor Shower Saturday , Aug . 13 • 9 p . m . McCloud Nature Park
The annual Perseid meteor shower peaks at this time of year , and tonight only , we ’ re offering you a chance to view the meteors from one of the clearest vantage points in Hendricks County ! Bring folding chairs and blankets and join Park Naturalists and the Indiana Astronomical Society for what will hopefully be a beautiful show !
Remember that stargazing is a waiting game , and viewing is weather-dependent , so be sure to dress comfortably . The park will close at 11:30 p . m . So , you ’ re sitting there having a lovely picnic with your friends when … all of a sudden , ants are everywhere ! Not today , though ! Today , we are intruding on their picnic ! Join a naturalist as we prepare a picnic FOR the ants and learn about their habits through observation . They might seem like pests , but the truth is that they play an invaluable role in many ecosystems ! Meet at the Nature Center .

The Parks Foundation of Hendricks County ’ s Summer Fun Run Series is back for 2022 ! Enjoy an untimed stroll or run with family and friends at your convenience anytime between 4 and 7 p . m . at W . S . Gibbs Memorial Park ! We will offer a short and a long course to run or walk on trails with gravel and natural surfaces . ( Trails are not conducive to standard strollers . Jogging strollers with larger tires are a better option .) We ’ ll have ice cold water for you to cool down with when you ’ re done . Celebrate all pollinators ! Make wildflower seed balls to plant at home or launch into the McCloud prairie ! View the observation beehives , and meet honeybees and beekeepers . Learn the importance of native wildflowers while enjoying the vibrant prairie ! Purchase some bee projects and enjoy food from the Bee Hive restaurant ! Allergy alert : as with any visit to the outdoors , it is possible to come into contact with live bees and / or other stinging insects .
