SUMMER POETRY WALK Saturday , July 24-31 • 10 a . m . to 4 p . m . daily McCloud Nature Park
Explore a park abuzz with summer cheer . We ’ ve placed poems on the trail to keep you company alongside the zipping hummingbirds and lazing turtles . Will you find inspiration under the sun-soaked leaves ? If you ’ d like , pick up a poetry sheet from the Nature Center kiosk to see different types of poems – and then write one of your own !

CREEK STOMP HIKE Saturday , Aug . 7 • 1:30 p . m . McCloud Nature Park
Grab your water shoes ! We ’ re hiking up the Big Walnut Creek ! It ’ s a great way to cool off and see the fish , birds , and bugs that call the creek home . No flip-flops or bare feet – we wouldn ’ t want a turtle to chomp off your toes ! Bring towels , and don ’ t forget your water bottle . All participants will be wet by the end of the hike ! ( If the creek or weather conditions are unsafe , there will be alternate activities .)
HIKING TERRAIN INFO : MODERATE TO DIFFICULT , GRAVEL AND NATURAL TRAIL SURFACES ON LAND , ROCKY BOTTOM AND AGAINST THE CURRENT IN THE CREEK , 2 MILES . RECOMMENDED FOR AGES 6 THROUGH ADULT ; CHILDREN YOUNGER THAN 16 MUST ATTEND WITH A PARENT OR GUARDIAN WHO IS ABLE TO HIKE IN THE CREEK . PARENTS SHOULD REMAIN WITHIN ARMS ’ REACH OF THEIR CHILDREN AT ALL TIMES AND ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR SAFETY .

Settle down in the shade and make a braided bracelet out of cotton thread for yourself or for a friend ( while supplies last )! Park Naturalists will lead you in building your own mini raft to sail down Big Walnut Creek . Set sail from the sand bar to the historic truss bridge over Big Walnut , where our 2021 Regatta Champion will be crowned !
