WHAT ’ S NEW AT McCLOUD NATURE PARK
Our oldest park has some new features , in addition to the recent Nature Center remodel , to better serve our park guests !
GRIT FREEDOM CHAIRS Hendricks County Parks & Recreation was awarded a Gary Emsweller Parks & Trails Fund grant this year through the Parks Foundation of Hendricks County to purchase two GRIT Freedom Chairs . Park guests can borrow these wheelchairs that make traveling through the park much easier , either under your own power or someone else ’ s . See page 22 for more information .
SWING SET Hendricks County Parks & Recreation was also awarded a Gary Emsweller Parks & Trails Fund grant through the Parks Foundation of Hendricks County in 2023 , which was used to purchase a swing set at McCloud . We have received many requests for a swing set over the years , and this grant covered the expense of purchasing it . It
16 • www . HendricksCountyParks . org features regular belt swings , as well as a tire swing , an ADA-accessible swing , and an infant swing on a bed of engineered wood fibers . It is located near Mill Cottage .
SOLAR PANELS & LIGHTS Hendricks County received a federal energy conservation grant , and elected officials selected Parks & Recreation as the department to use the grant money . As such , we will be installing solar panels on the roof of the McCloud maintenance hub that will result in considerable savings in both energy consumption and the cost involved with it . This project will also provide park guests with an educational opportunity regarding the benefits of solar power . Additionally , solar-powered security lights will be installed in the park , similar to those in place at W . S . Gibbs Memorial Park .
