Providing Students Education on Laboratory Methods for Cannabis Extraction .

The fall semester at St . Louis Community College ( STLCC ) has successfully started . The fall semester offers students the opportunity to take cannabis educational courses recently added to the STLCC Cannabis program , including Laboratory Methods for Cannabis Extraction .

The goal of the STLCC Cannabis program is to help bring more education to individuals about working within the cannabis industry by giving them hands-on experience , tours , and networking opportunities . of the cannabis industry , one we can all respect , love the plant , yet have our own twist on its related products .”
We asked Jerry Pence , Program Coordinator – Horticulture STLCC , to tell us more about the classes offered . Pence says , “ There is a Monday / Wednesday evening class that runs 16 weeks , and there is a Monday / Wednesday day class that is a 12-week class starting in October , assuming there are enough students .”
STLCC currently offers three classes – HRT-135 Introduction to Cannabis ( HRT abbreviation for Horticulture ), HRT-136 Cannabis and Hemp Cultivation , and HRT 137 Laboratory Methods for Cannabis Extraction .
“ The goal is for students to take 135 and HRT-101 ( Introductory Horticulture ) together in the fall , followed up by HRT-136 and HRT-137 in the spring ,” said Pence . “ We have applied with the State of Missouri for approval for a Cannabis Certificate of Specialization in Cannabis , which will encompass those four classes . We anticipate approval of the certificate sometime next spring . There are no minimums for enrollment in HRT-135 and HRT-136 . Right now , we are holding HRT-137 at the BRDG Park facility , where the STLCC Biotech program is housed , and those classes are limited to 12 per class , but we expect to be offering multiple sections .”
According to Pence , if you select the cannabis courses in the Horticulture Electives section in the Program Requirements tab at https :// catalog . stlcc . edu / programs / horticulture-aas /# programrequirementstext , you will see a course description for each class .

Companies answered the call , resulting in our including over 40 items within the swag bags that students received Monday , August 28 , 2023 . The support was amazing . We thank everyone so much for the support and participation . This offered students a great representation
“ We are excited to be offering this opportunity for students ,” said Pence . “ Our classes meet in person to give students a hands-on experience . Students learn from professionals in the industry and take field trips to observe growing facilities in the St . Louis area . Students work with hemp plants in their labs for both HRT-136 and HRT-137 , which affords them the opportunity to work with the cannabis product in a controlled environment .”
All STLCC classes stress professionalism with the objective of giving students opportunities for employment in the ever-growing Missouri cannabis industry .
