Staying educated about what these cannabinoids are and how they affect you when consumed alone or combined with other cannabinoids is essential for making informed purchasing decisions .
CBDv , CBG , CBGa , and CBC . With cannabis still being a federally illegal substance , there is still little research about these lesser-known cannabinoids , even though we are seeing them on the market for purchase . I will not dive into all of these , but I will explain a few .
cannabinoid . THCv has different effects than that of THC but does have psychoactive properties , although milder . While THC is known to produce the munchies , THCv appears to have the opposite effect . Instead , it reduces appetite and potentially promotes weight loss .
25 % as effective as THC , which makes it a mild chemical . Unlike CBD , which is entirely non-psychoactive , CBN , in larger doses , can produce mild psychoactive reactions .
Cannabichromene ( CBC ) is a lesser-known but has been the subject of medical research for over 50 years . CBC is the third most abundant cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant , after CBD and THC . CBC is also non-psychoactive and does not produce the “ high .” It has been observed for its potential benefits . Unlike THC and CBD , CBC does not bind directly to the cannabinoid receptors in the brain but instead works by enhancing the effects of other cannabinoids , particularly THC and CBD .
As things continue to change and develop in the cannabis sector , consumers will be offered products with an array of cannabinoids in them . Staying educated about what these cannabinoids are and how they affect you when consumed alone or combined with other cannabinoids is essential for making informed purchasing decisions .
THCa , tetrahydrocannabinolic acid , is not psychoactive . It is found in live cannabis plants before exposer to heat or sunlight converts it into THC through decarboxylation , which is why consuming cannabis flower directly from the plant does not produce the typical intoxicating effects . “ THCa differs from THC in its molecular structure and the absence of psychoactive effects . While THC binds to cannabinoid receptors in the brain , producing the characteristic “ high ,” THCa does not have this effect due to its unique molecular configuration .” 1
Structurally similar to THC , tetrahydrocannabivarin ( THCv ) is a lesser-known
Cannabigerol ( CBG ) is often referred to as the “ mother of all cannabinoids ” because other cannabinoids are derived from cannabigerolic acid ( CBGa ), an acidic form of CBG . CBG is derived from young cannabis plants , which contain higher amounts of this cannabinoid than plants that are fully developed . Both CBD and THC start as CBGa , an acidic form of CBG . This is why younger cannabis plants contain higher concentrations .
Cannabinol ( CBN ) can be understood as a weaker version of THC . When THC components in the cannabis plant age , they break down , leading to the formation of a less potent cannabinoid called CBN . It ’ s about
