the Assistant Principal Bass title with the Missouri Symphony . Additionally , I play as a substitute musician with various orchestras in the region , including the Kansas City Symphony , Des Moines Symphony Orchestra , Tulsa Symphony Orchestra , and Symphony of Northwest Arkansas .
Do you create any of your own music ? I compose for myself , but I also play a lot of improvised music in certain situations .
Do you have online music you ’ ve helped create or groups performed with , and where can we find it ? I don ’ t have much available currently , but during the COVID lockdown , I created recording projects for myself that I uploaded to my YouTube channel , kassieferrero7937 . Most of the uploads are recordings of different musical etudes written by one of my favorite bassists , John Patitucci . The other recordings are part of virtual collaborations with other musicians . I ’ ve been “ slowly ” revamping my online presence to include more recordings . Hopefully , I ’ ll get that done soon !
Have you met other musicians in the cannabis industry or performed with them ? I haven ’ t met many canna folks who are also musicians , but there are some out there , including Joe Donley ( Illicit Gardens ), Darrin Cripe ( Headhouse ), Cory Sanson ( Headchange ), and Matthan Black ( Flora ). Do you have any projects in the works or performances lined up for November or December ? I am in the production stage of Infused Sound Healing ’ s Q4 session , a guided meditation and live music experience in Kansas City . As of now , I have a few performances lined up in Columbia , MO , and KC for the holiday season , but I ’ m sure there ’ ll be more once we get closer . Freelancing is a wild thing — sometimes you have nothing on the books , and then suddenly , your calendar is booked solid .
Would you consider performing music your second job ? I consider both cannabis and music my first jobs equally . I balance both with a meticulously managed , color-coded schedule . It can be daunting to look at sometimes , but I live by my calendar and would be screwed without it .
How does cannabis help you as a creative or musician ? First and foremost , cannabis helps alleviate back and neck pain from a performance injury in 2014 . It also helps quiet the mind so I can connect with the music and focus on beautiful playing .
What are some of the ways the cannabis industry could support local musicians ? Show up and support us at live music events ! Putting on such events takes a lot of time and money , most of which comes out of our own pockets . We ’ re always down to play at cannabis events and meet new folks . It all starts with a simple “ Hello .”
