Canna Business Profile
One Year of Plume
Behind The Scenes of Building a Brand
by Jessica Frank , Contributing Writer
A lot can happen in a year ; a brand can completely transform . Plume Cannabis is one of those brands . Plume Cannabis launched in June 2023 with a compliance manager , production manager , two kitchen assistants , a vape tech , and two packagers . When I started with Plume in September of 2023 , there was one co-worker in the catch-all room , and packaging , stickering , and pre-rolls were all completed in the same space . A kitchen assistant filled the gap in packaging shortly after . By December 2023 , the team members and workload had doubled . Later on , four more employees were added to the team . This gave Plume distinction in departments . Separating the departments into packaging , pre-rolls , inventory , kitchen , and extraction allowed Plume to develop department leads .
One year later , Plume grew to over twenty employees : two in the kitchen , three in the vault , five in pre-roll , two in extraction , and six in packaging . Plus , facility maintenance and the management team grew . Quite an improvement — still small but very mighty !
Plume launched its retail products at Latitude Dispensary in Osage Beach and Latitude Dispensary in Eldon . One year later , Plume products are available in over 55 dispensaries and growing throughout Missouri every day with the help of Fernando Lopez , an incredibly talented wholesale manager who is wonderful at his job . Today , there are tons of orders to fulfill by an incredible inventory team ! Plume ’ s inventory vault , lovingly referred to as “ the Dungeon ,” grew from an exceedingly small room into an enormous storage area with space to thrive .
Within the packaging department , the team has grown tremendously in talent , size , and love , thanks to Brittani , an incredibly talented and kind packaging manager . Accompanying her are two packaging team members , a packaging technician , and a packager who is also cross-trained in vape fulfillment . The inventory team will also jump in to help with packaging as needed . Packaging is Plume ’ s largest department aside from the management team . Packaging has also endured the largest amount of changes this year , along with marketing , branding , package changes , and challenges along the
way . Plume , like other Missouri brands , has been working tirelessly to become state-compliant with new packaging rules while remaining appealing to its customers .
Michelle , as the pre-roll lead , is phenomenal at her job managing a team of four , including a machine tech , a grind and sift specialist , and two quality techs ( lovingly referred to as Pre-Roll Artists ). This team is the heart and soul of the brand . Plume ’ s infused pre-rolls are renowned for being tasty with an extremely even burn . Plume tucks all pre-rolls into a crown , so you know it ’ s fit for royalty . While a pre-roll machine was added to its tool belt , staff still quality checks and tucks pre-rolls by hand .
The distillation and extraction team includes Tim as extraction lead technician , Mike as equipment operator , and one other assistant who is cross-trained in pre-roll . They all work incredibly long hours to ensure the distillate they produce is medical grade . The lab was completely transformed over the past year into something the staff is incredibly proud of . This includes changing infused pre-rolls from needlepoint infusions to flower infusions . Flower infusions are just one of the many niches that set Plume apart .
The kitchen team at Plume is small but mighty . The manager and kitchen assistant spend the day with the fire mixer creating Plume ’ s deliciously scrumptious gummies . Once a small , tight space , the kitchen has grown into a marvelous state-of-the-art infusion kitchen .
