Could Cannabis Aid Diabetes ?

ics have reported similar blood glucose regulation benefits , though likely not to the degree that they could discontinue insulin medications altogether .
Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy
Excess and poorly regulated blood sugar can result in nerve damage . Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy occurs in approximately 50 % of diabetics , with 15 % of diabetics reporting “ very painful ” symptoms . Patients often complain of pain and hyperalgesia in their feet , often worsening at night . Other symptoms may include numbness , paresthesia , sensitivity to touch , unsteadiness , and weakness .
In a 2015 University of California San Diego ( UCSD ) randomized placebo-controlled study , patients were administered “ low , medium , and high THC ” concentrations ( with virtually no CBD ) of 1 %, 4 %, and 7 %. Dosing was controlled via inhaled cannabis bud vapor at 0 , 4 , 16 , or 28 mg THC per dosing session . Even with what we might consider relatively small doses of pathetic quality “ DEA weed ” the University of Mississippi is famous for supplying such studies , the outcomes were promising . Most patients reported significant pain reduction at high and even medium dosing , usually lasting several hours . 24 November 2021
It should be noted that UCSD was well-justified in using such small doses . It ’ s been well established that when dealing with pain in general and neuropathic pain in particular , more isn ’ t always better . Excess THC dosing can sometimes worsen the pain . Whether it be Type 1 or 2 diabetes , high THC strains are not always the best choice . CBD to THC 1:1 , if not higher strains are a safer bet .
Furthermore , too much THC may trigger too much of the munchies . Smoking and vaping provide the fastest relief . Tinctures and edibles are longer-lasting , making them a better choice for getting a good night ’ s sleep .
