April brought an overabundance of showers for May flowers to blossom. Hopefully, the overabundance is not excessive but rather beneficial for the emerging Missouri microbusinesses and the regular cannabis industry, resulting in a substantial harvest celebration this year.
Speaking of celebrations, get ready for the many celebrated days in May and potential dispensary sales, starting with May the Fourth( be with you) and Cinco de Mayo sales on May 4th and 5th. Mother’ s Day is May 10, and Memorial Day sales are on May 25. May offers plenty to celebrate and opportunities to save a few bucks.
Older Americans Month is also observed nationwide in May to honor the contributions, achievements, and experiences of older adults. It also promotes programs that support healthy aging, independence, and community involvement. One way to celebrate is to advocate for programs that support healthy and active aging. Writer Sara Figueroa’ s monthly column on Senior Wellness does just that this month. On page 26, she highlights her Cannabis and Aging Classes and the need for older adults’ access to medical cannabis products. Be sure to read and share her article with the older adults in your life.
Great News! On April 3, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services announced it has filed proposed rules to establish marijuana research facilities. This is great news as we could FINALLY have solid, science-backed research on the potential health benefits of cannabis.
DHSS said,“ The Missouri Division of Cannabis Regulation( DCR) within the Department of Health and Senior Services( DHSS) has filed proposed rules titled 19 CSR 100-1.200 Marijuana Research Facilities with the Secretary of State and the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules.
“ These rules establish marijuana research licenses, describe what a research licensee is authorized to do, and outline the application requirements and process for a marijuana research license. DHSS previously published draft rules on its website to gather pre-rulemaking stakeholder feedback.
“ The proposed rules will be published in the May 1, 2026, issue of the Missouri Register, which can be found on the Secretary of State’ s website. Public comments will be accepted from May 1 – May 31, 2026. DHSS expects to file the final version of rules for formal rulemaking in summer of 2026.” We’ ll continue to follow this news.
Most importantly, celebrate Mom on Mother’ s Day, May 10, and express your gratitude for her love, care, and dedication. She is the glue holding families together— as is Grammie!
Lastly, remember May 16 is Armed Forces Day, and Memorial Day is May 26, when we honor lost military personnel who died defending our freedom. Presently and forever, it is imperative that we honor and express our gratitude to our military personnel. At the time of this writing, they are actively engaged in the Iran conflict. We pray the conflict is over by the time this issue hits the streets. Memorial Day is also considered the unofficial beginning of summer, a season we are all more than ready to enjoy as the warmth arrives, swimming pools open, flowers blossom, and summer fun begins. May you thrive throughout the year!
