As we celebrate Memorial Day on May 26th to honor and mourn our U. S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces, it’ s important to remember that the cannabis industry has always been aware of the sacrifices made by our military personnel. This awareness is why many, if not all, cannabis dispensaries offer discounts to those who have served. Furthermore, millions of dollars from Missouri’ s cannabis industry sales help fund programs for our veterans. In March alone, the Missouri Veterans Commission received $ 11,681,984 from the state for exclusive use in health care and other services for military veterans and their dependent families.
Recently, I had the privilege of conversing with a combat veteran who had dedicated over nine years of his life to military service. During our conversation, it became apparent that his combat experiences had led to health complications that prompted him to seek out traditional forms of medicine. However, the veteran eventually faced adverse side effects from the multitude of medications he was taking, which prompted him to explore alternative options. This exploration led him to discover the benefits of cannabis, which, over time, he found that cannabis helped to calm his nerves, sleep, create appetite, and treat his pain and quite intrusive thoughts. Ultimately, cannabis provided him with relief and allowed him to discontinue less-than-effective traditional medications.
