SAY GOODBYE TO APRIL SHOWERS
Products To Manage Stress and Cultivate Joy by Emily Cross , contributing writer
I
’ ve been thinking a lot about seasons , how they affect us , and what the seasons can teach us about living in the moment we ’ re in . We all know the English proverb : April showers bring May flowers . This proverb is meant to remind us that seasons of growth can be unpleasant , yet they are rewarding . Think of this month ’ s product recommendations as umbrellas for life ’ s little showers . No matter the month or whatever season you ’ re in , these products are helpful for managing stress and cultivating joy .
Crepes 3.5g Indica Flower by Flora Farms Smoking flower in the evenings after work helps me manage stress and transition my mindset from helping others to caring for myself . Crepes , cultivated by Flora Farms , has quickly become my go-to strain for a relaxing smoke . Crepes is a cross of Pancakes ( London Pound Cake and Kush Mints ) and Project 4516 . Its aroma of doughy sweetness and undercurrent of citrus rind evoke a fine merlot with top terpenes , including caryophyllene , limonene , and myrcene . Crepes delivers a stony behind-the-eyes feeling that kicks off waves of body relaxation while providing a euphoric mood lift . Perfect for unwinding .
Screaming Eagle 7g Hybrid Flower by CUCO Cultivated by CUCO , this strain was bred to help veterans and others dealing with anxious thoughts . I love the berry sweetness of the strain , which is in no doubt thanks to its top terpenes of myrcene , caryophyllene , and pinene , having twice as much myrcene as any other terpene . Within a few moments of inhaling , I felt a calmness fall over me like a blanket placed on me by a loved one . But it was the grounded , focused feeling that took this strain to the next level for me . This strain relieves my stress while leaving me feeling in control of myself , a very helpful effect when life feels out of control .
Blue Dream FECO “ Full-Spectrum Extract Cannabis Oil ” 1g by Flora Farms FECO retains all cannabinoids and terpenes extracted from the plant . It comes in a syringe to help with dispensing the thick , sticky oil , but I ’ d still recommend warming it under water or in your hand for easier dosing . As an edible product , most people start with a rice grain-sized dose of the oil on an uninfused snack that covers the vegetal flavor .
I prefer this edible to just about any pre-made edible option because of the freedom to dose anything , including warm beverages . Flora Farms FECO is strain-specific , meaning you can expect some of the same effects as you ’ d find in the flower of any given strain . It also means there ’ s a Flora Farms FECO for different needs . When I feel physically overwhelmed or just can ’ t get out of my head , Blue Dream FECO balances me back out .
EOCO “ Essence of Cannabis Oil ” Time Release Capsules by Bison From the first time I encountered EOCO Time Release Capsules , I was intrigued . The product seemed simple : four oils commonly found in kitchens — coconut , avocado , extra virgin olive , and grapeseed oils , all infused with THC and other minor cannabinoids . Each oil is absorbed at different times , providing a time-release that comes in waves . EOCO Time Release Capsules come in three dosages to choose from : High Dose , Medium Dose , and Low Dose . I picked up the Low Dose option , which had seven capsules with about 20mg of THC per capsule . I must admit , as a low-dose edible consumer who tends to stick to 5mg of THC at a time , I was intimidated to try a 20mg capsule . Then again , 20mg spread out over four waves hours apart is about 5mg at a time . Having reasoned with myself , I plucked up my courage for potentially more than I bargained for and tried my first EOCO capsule on a day off . It was lovely . I felt the first effects within the hour as a wave of euphoria brought a smile to my face . Each following wave relaxed another layer of tension I didn ’ t realize I was carrying around . The time release successfully kept me from feeling overwhelmed by a larger-than-usual dose . I ’ ll reach for these again the next time I want a mini-staycation .
Here ’ s to a May full of flowers and exploring products that make it easier to manage stress and cultivate joy .
