Jimmy Struggled with Pain and Suicidal Thoughts

Until He Met RSO by Shelly Morrow , contributing writer

Many who live with chronic pain turn to medical marijuana to help manage their symptoms . Patients often find that utilizing cannabis as an alternative pain management regimen provides them a higher quality of life . As the general manager of Flora Farms Neosho , I meet patients every day whose lives are touched by the power of medical marijuana . That ’ s how I met James “ Jimmy ” Horner .

Jimmy struggled daily with suicidal thoughts . Bolstered by the relief he was getting from medical marijuana , Jimmy chose to stop taking the prescription medications . The depression and suicidal thoughts lifted soon after .
In October 2020 , Jimmy was driving home when he overcorrected through a turn . His vehicle rolled for 50 yards . Jimmy was left with broken upper and lower jaws , brain damage , and life-threatening injuries that left him paralyzed from the chest down .

Doctors placed Jimmy in a medically induced coma for 30 days . When he was finally awoken , Jimmy believed he had died . “ I was sure I ’ d gone to hell and was being tortured ,” Jimmy told me . Though paralyzed , he felt a horrific burning sensation over his entire body due to nerve damage .
Jimmy came to us at Flora Farms a few months after being released from the hospital . At the time , he had limited mobility in his arms and was learning to speak again . Regardless of his challenges , he always has a joke for us that gets the whole team laughing when he visits to purchase his medicine . I fell in love with his determination and spirit .
In late February 2022 , Jimmy told me he needed to be productive , get out of the house , and find a purpose . He asked about any volunteer opportunities as a patient advocate , and I knew he could move hearts and change minds with his personality and story . Jimmy recently volunteered as a patient advocate with us to collect signatures for Legal MO 22 . When I asked Jimmy if he ’ d be willing to share his deeply personal story with us , he agreed .
I ’ ve seen Jimmy fight every day to be a good husband to his wife , Brittany , and to be there for his beautiful children , Aveah ( 6 ) and Bentley ( 4 ). It has been a hard fight . Doctors prescribed Tramadol and Lyrica to help with nerve damage and the resulting extreme burning sensation . Although the medications gave him minor relief , the side effects they caused were more than anyone should ever have to manage . Depression set in while taking these prescriptions , and
In March , Jimmy and his wife , Brittany ( on left ), volunteered as patient advocates to collect signatures for Legal MO 22 with Shelly Morrow GM of Flora Farms Neosho ( on right ).
As Jimmy told me this deeply personal part of his story , tears streamed down both our faces . I had an “ aha ” moment then and talked to Jimmy about the possible benefits of RSO ( known as Rick Simpson Oil ). The next day , I got a text from him saying , “ That RSO is great ! Just letting you know that the RSO worked superb . I could tell a huge difference in my pain last night ; it was awesome . I did the perfect dose , my night was great , and thank you !” The product he used is Rainbow RSO from Heya Wellness MIP that he purchased at Flora Farms Neosho . My heart was touched almost as much as it was hearing the obstacles this man has overcome . The whole team at Flora Farms Neosho is so happy and excited to see him get the relief he deserves . Jimmy Horner is a survivor , a dedicated family man , and a powerful patient advocate for medical marijuana . I ’ m eager to see where this journey leads him in life .
