Cannabis for Lyme Disease
Though cannabis isn’ t known to cure Lyme disease, many thousands of Lyme patients have found it a valuable component in their treatment regimen, and even many Lyme specialists are quite comfortable with their patients using it. Cannabis reduces Lymerelated inflammation. 10 Cannabis can relieve the chronic pain common in Lyme disease. 11 It also alleviates discomfort and suffering, both physical and emotional, and helps restore appetite. Suffering from Lyme disease can be disillusioning and stressful, commonly leading to chronic depression and anxiety. Cannabis is a natural mood booster that can restore some hope and calm.
Preventing Lyme Disease
As Ben Franklin said,“ An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Avoiding tick bites is always prudent. Not only can ticks transmit Borreliosis, but they can also make us sick from other nasty bacteria they carry( or, in the case of Alpha-gal, the allergic reactions they can induce). If you have to traverse deep brush, woods, etc., cover up with suitable clothing( long sleeves, long pants, long socks, hat, etc.). Before returning home, inspect yourself and your friends for ticks. Most Lyme disease is thought to be spread by tiny nymphalstage ticks that can more easily go unnoticed longer than the 36 hours it takes for a tick to transmit spirochetes from a bite. If a tick has attached itself to your skin, use tweezers to gently brush or pull it off by its head. Don’ t squeeze or crush the tick, which may force
Borrelia into the bite. An even safer option is to apply several drops of Tea Tree oil to the tick. Often, the tick will slowly release and drop off, then die. Tea Tree oil also sterilizes the bite and kills tick-borne bacteria.
Periodically check your pets, livestock, and other animals for ticks. Pets can carry ticks from outdoors to indoors. Tea Tree oil works equally well for them. However, in the case of cats, only apply where they can’ t lick it off( Tea Tree is toxic to cats if orally ingested).
