It is important to remember that cannabis was first utilized( and legalized) as medicine. While many adults enjoy consuming cannabis for lifestyle enhancement, cannabis has a multitude of therapeutic benefits for several conditions and symptoms. Understanding which consumption methods and product types work best for particular conditions is essential. Not all cannabis products are the same, and the administration of them can dramatically influence the effect of cannabinoids on the body.
My column in the April 2025 issue was titled,“ What Are the Most Common Conditions and Symptoms Treated with Medical Cannabis?” The June issue of The EVOLUTION Magazine featured content about the Missouri cannabis industry’ s launch of its initiative called“ Bringing Back The‘ Medical’ In Marijuana: A Wellness Consumer & Market Opportunity.” In that issue, we mentioned that The EVOLUTION Magazine will continue to work toward helping“ Bringing Back The‘ Medical’ In Marijuana.” We believe cannabis can be an essential part of a day-to-day health routine, and it’ s important to know what can help patients.
This month, we expand on the previous April 2025 article with more specific patient uses. Here are some of the best methods and products for addressing common concerns for both physical and mental health that have been shown to provide relief through the use of cannabis, and explanations of why certain approaches with both product choices and consumption methods are more effective than others. Keep in mind that there are many different cannabinoids available to consumers, with THC( tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD( cannabidiol) being the most prevalent.
Chronic Pain
Relief Cream
For individuals suffering from chronic pain, especially related to inflammation or nerve damage, inhalation and topical applications offer the most relief. Vaping or smoking high-THC flower provides fast-acting analgesic effects, often within minutes, making it suitable for sudden flareups. Topical cannabis balms and creams, particularly those with a balanced THC: CBD ratio( such as 1:1 or 2:1), are ideal for localized pain. These products don’ t enter the bloodstream, so they deliver targeted relief without the psychoactive effects of THC. Combining both methods often provides layered, effective pain management.
Insomnia
Cannabis can be a powerful tool for sleep, especially when taken in the form of edibles or tinctures formulated for nighttime use. Edibles infused with THC and CBN( cannabinol) are especially effective, as they offer a slower onset but longer-lasting sedative effect, which is ideal for maintaining sleep
