In 2025, studies were published highlighting the importance of making cannabis medicine available for people who live with chronic lower back pain. Other studies from last year showed how cannabis provides relief for severe diabetic neuropathy and dementia symptoms. In the studies centered on pain management, participants drastically lowered their use of not only opioids but also alcohol, antidepressants, and other drugs too.
Cannabis is increasingly shown to improve functioning, provide relief, and make a real impact on how aging adults can continue to live independently. Although only 7 % of older adults use cannabis, they are also the people trying cannabis for the first time. That’ s why it’ s crucial to make the evidence available to everyone who needs it. People of all ages deserve access to evidence-based cannabis therapies.
In future articles, I will explore the research in detail to bring you evidence-based cannabis information. I will examine which medical cannabis products are available in Missouri and report feedback from the patients using them. Throughout the year, I will let you know about cannabis-friendly events for people aged 55 and older. Additionally, I will analyze the cultural shift in the attitudes of our oldest generation toward cannabis.
Congratulations, we made it to the year 2026! We have legal cannabis dispensaries, a growing variety of products available, and we finally have the chance to access the plant medicine we need.
Happy New Year! Watch for future issues with more educational information about of medical cannabis uses for adults over 55.
