How to Make Full Extract Cannabis Oil ( FECO )

Step 2 : Winterization — This step is not always mentioned , but I have found it very helpful with minimizing chlorophyll removal . This is not a hard step ; you simply place the decarboxylated material and alcohol into a deep freezer and allow it to sit for 24 hours .
Step 3 : Perform a QWET — Place 8 oz . of your winterized material into a mason jar . Pour 1 gallon of grain alcohol over the plant material . Place top on jar and shake for 1 to 3 minutes ( one full song ).
Step 4 : Strain your material — Place cheesecloth and coffee filter into funnel inside a mason jar and pour the material into another mason jar for collection . Once this is done , run alcohol through several more filters to make sure all plant material is removed before placing it into the distiller . ( The coffee filter placed on the top of your glass vessel will help keep any contaminants out .)
Step 5 : Pour alcohol tincture into the distiller and allow it to run until all the alcohol is collected from the mixture . Using a water distiller will allow you to reuse the alcohol . If you do not have a water distiller , you can use a rice cooker or mini-crock pot ( do not heat above 160 degrees F ) to remove the remaining alcohol .
• Open distiller in a well-ventilated area or outside — it will have fumes that can be flammable . ( WARNING : Please do not smoke or have an open flame around .) The evaporating alcohol has a strong odor that may be unpleasant in a small , confined space . An exhaust fan can help . Once all the smoke clears ( literally ), collect the tar mixture from the bottom for the distiller . You will want to collect the concentrate ASAP , or it will get very sticky and hard to remove from the machine .
• Once collected , place the collection on the coffee maker with the heat on for 24 hours to ensure all the alcohol is properly removed . When all the alcohol is removed , you will be left with a very thick and solid concentrate of FECO Oil . Heat it up if too solid to place it into a syringe for storing .
How do you use FECO Oil ?
IMPORTANT — Start slow ! Please understand that this is a strong concentrate — much stronger than a single joint . When you store your concentrate , the best option will be to use a graduated syringe . Start with one-gram syringes . The FECO wax does get hard , so placing it in a warm container of water will help with dispensing . It ’ s best for your first dose to be no more than a rice-size line of wax . Increase as needed . Enjoy !
What Is the Difference Between FECO and RSO ?
One last important note : Many people confuse FECO with RSO — also known as Rick Simpson Oil . Both FECO and RSO have the same final characteristics and have a very dark , thick , sticky , and tar-like consistency upon successful completion , and both utilize alcohol as the solvent for extraction . The main difference between FECO and RSO is the type of alcohol used for the extraction . FECO utilizes food-grade grain alcohol , a much safer solvent than the isopropyl alcohol or naptha used in the RSO method . The final outcomes are similar , but isopropyl alcohol ( rubbing alcohol , like the kind you would find in your medicine cabinet ) IS NOT SAFE TO INGEST . Again , we are making full-extract cannabis oil , FECO , with a tincture made with food-grade grain alcohol , which is safe for human consumption .
