Paul M . Joslin , M . D ., GPA CEO , states , “ GPA Labs has been serving the Missouri cannabis and hemp market since October of 2020 and was the first lab to test legal medical cannabis products and issue certificates of analysis in Missouri . GPA samples products from all over the state and is by far the highest volume testing facility in Missouri . The diverse array of products we test requires a large and growing number of sample preparation protocols and continuous R & D , and this , combined with the high sensitivity of our detection methods , necessitated a complex and comprehensive ISO application . Josh , Cullen , Dain , and our other scientists worked long and hard on this effort and will continue to collaborate going forward to maintain ISO standards and accreditation . This experience has and will continue to make us a better analytical testing laboratory . We view the A2LA ISO 17025 certification requirements as being overwhelmingly positive for the Missouri cannabis and hemp industries . Through DHSS and
A2LA ’ s rigorous oversight , cultivators , manufacturers , dispensaries , and patients can have even more trust and confidence in GPA COA ’ s .”
GPA ’ s Laboratory Director , Josh Kollmeyer , MLS ( ASCP ), added , “ With DHSS ’ s high standards and A2LA ’ s surveillance , Missouri patients and industry professionals have confidence in GPA ’ s accurate , consistent , and rapid required testing services . ISO certification affirms that our methods meet or exceed industry standards and should increase the value and safety of cannabis and hemp products tested through GPA . Patient safety is our top priority at GPA , and we are committed to performing comprehensive and precise cannabis and hemp testing in Missouri .”
What is an A2LA Accreditation ?
A2LA ’ s Cannabis Testing Laboratory Accreditation Program was developed to promote confidence to users and regulators regarding the safety of medical and recreational marijuana through the accreditation of cannabis testing laboratories and ( when relevant ) inspection bodies . Appropriate testing is critical to demonstrate that these products do not contain harmful levels of contaminants or adulterants and are safe for public consumption .
Specific testing may include , but is not limited to , the following : Cannabinoid testing and content ( CBC , CBD , CBDa , CBG , CBN , THC , THCa , THCv , etc .) ; Terpene profile ; Pesticides / fungicides / plant growth regulators ; Residual solvents ; Heavy metals ; Microbiological contaminants ( mold , insects , bacteria , etc .)
How Does ISO 17025 Help Improve Laboratory Measurements ?
As the requirements of the ISO 17025:2017 standard state that laboratories must demonstrate their competence , practical work requires the proper use of laboratory equipment and commits to following controlled procedures .
