Dip It !
Nothing Says Super Bowl Party
Like French Onion Dip
by Chef Dana Cunningham
Here ’ s hoping everyone is well and happy and living their best life . I am so excited about the big Super Bowl game this month . I don ’ t know if you know this about me , but I am an enthusiastic football fan . One thing I can do is watch any team play their game and find someone to cheer on . Although we KC fans do have the best team in the NFL , it is fun for me to watch all the other teams play as well . I love that football brings people together to enjoy common ground . Even though people at the sports bar are not playing in the game , they are still joining together to cheer on the same team to win .
Sports also bring people together at home , whether it ’ s for a big football party or just a family time together on a Sunday after a long , hard week of work and school . These are the reasons I love football the most . Cozy socks , warm sweaters , and blankets covered up watching football as snow falls outside — it ’ s very nostalgic .
With the big game this month , I ’ m sure there will be a lot of fun parties with plenty of good food . I have a football favorite munchie that is sure to win the party potluck game . This French Onion Dip is super easy because the infusion is very versatile . You can use just about anything : an infused oil , butter , or a STiRiBLES pack of water-soluble THC powder from High Five . We get our High Five STiRiBLES packs at our local Kansas City Cannabis dispensary because it has a good selection of them . STiRiBLES are watersoluble , flavorless powder THC packets , so you can easily add them to anything . I also like these packets because they control the dose a lot better than a batch of homemade butter . Let ’ s be honest with ourselves ; we are not getting our butter lab tested like High Five does . I use these instead of infused
More about STiRiBLES on page 36 oil or butter if the recipe I ’ m making truly does not need oil or butter or if the recipe is more of a water or milk base . But because this recipe does contain butter , it ’ s your choice to use butter or watersoluble packets . My best advice is always to keep infused foods and beverages away from children out of reach , then go low and slow on dosage with edibles because you can always add more , but you can ’ t take any away . So , without further ado , here is the football party French Onion Dip recipe .
Ingredients
2 tablespoons of butter ( preferably infused ) 2 large yellow onions , diced 2 cloves of garlic , minced 4 oz of cream cheese ½ up of real mayo ½ cup of full-fat sour cream ½ tsp cayenne pepper A dash of sea salt Fresh ground pepper to taste
The Method
1 . Over medium heat , melt the butter in a medium skillet . 2 . Once the skillet is warm , add the onion and sweat for about 5 minutes . 3 . Toss in cayenne pepper , minced garlic , salt , and pepper , and cook for another minute . 4 . Lower heat to medium-low and let the onions cook for another 20 minutes , stirring occasionally . 5 . Once the onions are nice and golden , take off the heat and let cool . 6 . In a microwave-safe bowl , warm the cream cheese in 10-second bursts just until soft . 7 . Mix the mayo and the sour cream with the cream cheese and stir until smooth . You can use a mixer if you want . 8 . Once the onions are cooled , stir them into the cream mixture and cool in the fridge for another 2 hours . 9 . Pull out of the refrigerator and serve with your choice of dippers
( chips , pita , veggies , etc .).
As I write this in January , we don ’ t know who made it to the Super Bowl . I hope it ’ s the Chiefs — after all , we have the best team . Enjoy your Super Bowl party and the French Onion Dip .
