One of the most challenging and dangerous drugs for an addict to quit is alcohol . There are no such concerns for cannabis . While tapering back incurs less unpleasant withdrawal symptoms , one can go cold turkey without dangerous consequences .
CUD appears to be on the rise , which is thought to be partly due to the increasing prevalence of higher and higher THC strains . Such strains come at the sacrifice of other important cannabinoids . High THC strains increase the risk for CUD . As a more comfortable alternative to going cold turkey , one might substitute more balanced strains containing less THC and more CBD . In doing so , one is reducing THC consumption while increasing CBD . The increased CBD can diminish potential unpleasant withdrawal symptoms to the point of potentially no symptoms at all .
Adulterated Cannabis and Synthetic Cannabis
All bets are off regarding the relative safety of cannabis when it ’ s been adulterated . Tragically we ’ re seeing a lot of street weed laced with highly addictive and dangerous substances ( e . g ., meth , fentanyl , and synthetic cannabinoids ). This is done to increase the high and to addict users to keep them coming back for more . Lacing street weed with synthetic cannabis is potentially even more addictive and dangerous than lacing it with meth or fentanyl . Unless you know the grower personally , avoid buying from black market sources and stick with licensed dispensaries .
