Missouri’ s Microbusinesses
Progress Updates for April 2025 an Exciting Future Ahead
by Samantha Blum, contributing writer
The Missouri microbusiness community is enjoying a strong period of growth and fresh optimism. In a major win for the sector, Ozark Mountain Gypsy has completed its commencement process and is set to open in April— possibly even sooner. This achievement brings the number of commenced microbusinesses to three, marking a significant step forward and building confidence across the community.
This success is much more than just clearing a regulatory hurdle. It shows that the micro business sector is maturing and becoming more ready for the market. As Ozark Mountain Gypsy nears its launch, its progress gives other microbusiness owners a boost. With eight to ten more groups keeping sights on starting their commencement process over the next few months, the excitement is palpable. This is promising progress and the light at the end of the tunnel for many, especially for the dispensaries waiting for enough product to open their doors. As production readiness lines up with retail demand, the market becomes more connected and efficient.
The spirit of collaboration within the community was on full display at the recent Missouri Microbusiness Association( MMBA) networking event in Jefferson City. Held near the quarterly MoCannTrade meetings at Boulevard Billard’ s, this gathering provided an open setting for participants to share thoughts and discuss plans to influence lawmakers. The relaxed atmosphere created an environment that promoted the free exchange of ideas among licensees.
One key topic of discussion at the event was the issue of unregulated intoxicating cannabinoids. Participants discussed various bills. Much of the conversation focused on finding the best ways to communicate with senators and representatives, which will help ensure that the microbusiness community’ s voices can be heard.
In addition to policy discussions, the meeting was a chance for the micro-community to share updates on their progress toward commencement. Many exchanged advice and celebrated small wins, reinforcing the idea that success in this growing industry largely depends on a strong network of support.
Looking ahead, the MMBA is already preparing for its next event in Kansas City on June 4th. This upcoming meeting will be another opportunity for microbusinesses to connect, share experiences, and fine-tune their strategies. With each meeting, the bonds between community members grow stronger.

In short, the microbusiness community is on the brink of exciting changes. With three wholesale cultivators leading the way and several more groups ready to follow, the future looks bright. As more businesses complete their commencement processes, the industry will see a smoother flow from production to retail, which is essential for a stable and efficient market. Additionally, the networking events and active discussions demonstrate that when people work together, they can drive real progress. As business operations and community connections grow stronger, a new era of success is just around the corner.
About The Missouri Cannabis Microbusinesses— Coming Soon. In November 2022, voters went to the polls and by a margin of more than 127,000 votes made Missouri the 21st state to legalize cannabis and the first state to automatically expunge past, nonviolent marijuana offenses by a vote of the people. Additionally, the new constitutional amendment also created a pathway for more Missourians to get into the cannabis industry through the microbusiness license program with 144 new cannabis microbusiness licenses for those who qualify as social equity applicants.
