General Idea
Life & Work by Sarah E.K. Smith
Warhol, Andy (American, 1928–1987)
One of the most important artists of the twentieth century and a central figure in Pop art.
With his serial screen prints of commercial items like Campbell’s Soup cans and
portraits of Marilyn Monroe and Elvis, Warhol defied the notion of the artwork as a
singular, handcrafted object.
