MIRROR SEQUENCES, 1969 “The classic use of the mirrors was, of course, in my self-portraits of the late sixties, mostly involving groups of mirrors in relation to my own naked body. In none of these portraits was my face visible. It was usually obscured by the camera, or by the mirrors themselves. These self-portraits were rather like visual puzzles, or labyrinths.” AA Bronson, The Quick and the Dead, Vancouver: The Power Plant, 2003. General Idea, Mirror Sequences (Six Mirrors), 1969, gelatin silver print, 11,7 x 19,4 cm (GI 328) This black-and-white photograph belongs to a series of self-portraits taken by AA Bronson, all portraying the artist’s reflection in one or more circular convex mirror. Series of an unknown number (19 identified to date). Never exhibited before. 8
